New Haven, Conn. – Freshman Genesis Cora Luquis (Meriden, Conn.) of the women's volleyball team and freshman Salah Oumorou (West Haven, Conn.) of the men's soccer team have been named as the Albertus Magnus College Student-Athletes of Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
In a perfect 4-0 week, Cora Luquis averaged a team-high 2.75 kills per set, while hitting .115 at the net. She also racked up 3.31 digs per set and fired a total of 18 service aces to go with a solo assist. Cora Luquis swung for 10 or more kills in three out of the four matches and finished the week with three straight double-doubles.
Oumorou enjoyed another stellar game as the rookie recorded his second hat trick of the season in the 4-3 overtime loss to Regis (Mass.) on Saturday afternoon. The freshman scored two of his goals within a 90 second span to tie the game at 3-3.
The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team returns to action this week as the Falcons host Dean College on Tues., Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. The men's soccer team is back in action on Tues., Sept. 19 as the Falcons host in-state foe Mitchell College at 6 p.m.
