New Haven, Conn. – Senior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and senior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Albertus Magnus Student-Athletes of the Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
Bolden collected her fourth straight double-double, 15 points and 14 rebounds, to help lead the Falcons to an 87-48 win over Medgar Evers last Tuesday. She shot a season-high 50 percent from the field and shot a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line. The senior forward also registered a season-high three assists, two steals and a block against the Cougars.
Walters, who was also named GNAC Corvias Player of the Week, posted his first double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-73 overtime win over the NEWMAC's WPI on Saturday afternoon. The senior forward shot an impressive 52.6% (10-19 FG) and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The reigning GNAC Player of the Year also posted a team-high four assists, two steals and a block in the victory.
The women's basketball team continues its four-game road tilt with a non-conference contest at Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. The men's basketball team returns to action next week as the Falcons welcome No. 7 Babson for a non-conference clash on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
