New Haven, Conn. - Freshman Andreah Orr (Danbury, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and junior Mason Jones (Manchester, N.J.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Albertus Magnus Student-Athletes of the Week. Initiated in September, 2017, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
Orr helped lift the Falcons to a 2-0 week, averaging 10.5 points (10-20 FG), 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. The rookie center opened the week recording her first collegiate double-double, a career-high 15 points and 17 rebounds, in a 87-68 win over New Rochelle. Orr closed out the week scoring six points, eight rebounds, an assist and a block in the 72-65 win over Farmingdale State.
Jones scored 19 points (7-of-11 FG), including three three-pointers, to go along three rebounds, an assist and a steal in the Falcons' 81-80 setback against No. 19 New Jersey City. He finished the game shooting an impressive 63.6% from the field, 60.0% from behind the arc and 100% from the charity stripe.
The women's basketball team opens 2018 with a non-conference tilt against Westfield State on Thursday, January 4 at 7 p.m. The men's team resumes play in 2018 with a home GNAC tilt against Suffolk University on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
