West Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Baseball team opened it's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule as they hosted Emerson College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons cruised to a 13-2 victory in game one while earning the 5-3 victory in game two.
Game one featured an offensive barrage by the Falcons as they scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the 11-1 lead and the eventual 13-2 victory. Sophomore right hander Matt Finkenzeller (Wolcott, CT/Sacred Heart) went five innings giving up two earned runs for the Falcons. Senior reliever Adam Platner (Northford, CT/North Branford) went two scoreless innings in relief for the Falcons. Sophomore DH Matt Caputo (East Haven, CT/East Haven) belted two solo homeruns and added a double to led the Falcons offefnsive attack.
Game two saw the Falcons score four runs in the first inning as Albertus received a strong pitching performance from freshman Chris Rivera (New Britain, CT/New Britain) as he went six innings allowing three runs with only two earned and walking only one. Rivera had the benefit of three double plays during the contest. Senior captain Robert Bengivengo (Oxford, CT/Seymour) came in the seventh inning for the save. Freshman outfielder Zak Sokolis (Meriden, CT) had three hits for the Falcons who belted four doubles in the contest.
Albertus improves to 5-12, 2-0 GNAC while Emerson drops to 8-15, 0-4 GNAC.
The Falcons host GNAC opponent Lasell College on Sunday for a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
