New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team was swept by No. 21 Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rochford Field. The Monks edged the Falcons, 8-4, in game one and defeated the Falcons 16-1 in the night cap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
(T) 1ST INNING – Saint Joseph's jumped on the board first, 1-0, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first, thanks to an RBI single from Jamie Collins.
(T) 3rd/4th INNING – The Monks pushed their lead to 7-0 after back-to-back three-run inning against the Falcons' bullpen.
(B) 5th INNING – Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.) got things started for the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth as the second baseman allowed the first run to score. Justen Rodriguez (Waterbury, Conn.) began the rally with a single up the middle before finding himself in scoring position thanks to a single from Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.). Rodriguez would cross home before Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.) grounded out to end the inning, leaving two runners on.
(B) 6th INNING – The Falcons continued their rally an inning later, scoring two runs on two hits to cut the Monks lead to four, 7-3. Derwin Nunez (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Rodriguez drove in a run each with back-to-back hits, but the Monks ended the threat with back-to-back outs.
(T) 7th INNING – Saint Joseph's tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh, to push its lead back up to five, 8-3.
(B) 7th INNING – Albertus Magnus continued to swing the bat and rally back from a five-run deficit. Nunez was only able to bring in one run before the Monks ended the threat with a ground out to third.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Albertus Magnus went 5-of-29 at the plate.
- Rodriguez led the team with a 2-of-4 showing at the plate as well as added a RBI and a run scored.
- Nunez also recorded a hit for the Falcons and collected a team-high two RBI.
- Saint Joseph's went 10-of-33 at the plate as well as recorded seven RBI.
- Adam Twitchell collected a team-high two hits.

(B) 1st Inning – Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) got thing started for the Falcons as the first basemen recorded his fifth home run of the season after hitting a deep ball to right center.
(T) 3rd INNING – Saint Joseph's took over the lead, 2-1, after recording a two-run, one-hit inning in the third. Dennis Meehan drove in the tying run off a RBI double before a sacrifice fly from Jacob White allowed the second run to tag up and score from third.
(T) 4th/5th INNING – Bats came alive for the Monks in the next two innings as the visitors scored 12 runs to take a commanding 14-1 lead over the hosts. The Monks scored four runs in the top of the fourth and scored eight more in the top of the fifth.
(T) 6th INNING – The Monks added two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth to push ahead 16-1.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Four different players, including Scully, recorded a hit for the hosts.
- The Monks were led by Taylor Black and Brett Barbati who recorded a team-high two hits.
- Palais earned his third loss of the season on the mound.
- Chris Gerossie of Saint Joseph's allowed three runs to score while Noah McDaniel and Jameson Collins added two runs scored, apiece.
The Falcons return to action next week against Newbury College, Lasell (DH) and Johnson & Wales (DH).
