Brockton, Mass. - Despite putting up 12 runs, including a four-run performance in the top of the third, the Albertus Magnus College baseball team fell to Lasell College, 18-12, on Tuesday evening in the first round of the 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
(T) 1st Inning – AMC infielder Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) got the visitors on the board first after hitting a two-out single through the right side to drive in Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.), who started off the game with a single to second.
(B) 1st Inning – Lasell answered back in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs on five hits to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first. With one out and the tying run on first, Skylar Beckerman hit a deep ball to right field allowing Brandon Valentin to score before Beckerman came home on a RBI from Daivd Marsell. Andre Marchesseault would make the score 3-1 on a RBI single to left.
(T) 2nd Inning – With two outs, Harris tied the game for the Falcons, 3-3, after hitting a two-run double into the left-center gap in the top of the second. Junior Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.) and freshman Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) both crossed home on the Harris double after both tallied a single a piece.
(B) 2nd Inning - Skylar Beckerman would answer back for Lasell with a one-out shot over the right field fence, giving the hosts a 5-3 lead. Four batters later, Bob Cutone would score a couple after doubling to left to push the hosts' lead 7-3.
(T) 3rd Inning – Albertus Magnus continued to swing the bat and rallied back in the top of the third, scoring four runs on three hits. With one out bases loaded, Lasell's pitcher Casey Johnson walked Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) for the Falcons' first run of the inning before a RBI from Bradley brought the score to within two, 7-5. Sophomore Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.) tied the game at 7-7 following a single to right field.
(T) 4th Inning – Freshman Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) gave the Falcons the 8-7 lead in the top of the fourth as he drove in Andrew Scully (Stratford, Conn.) on a sacrifice fly to center field. However, the Falcons' inning ended with a double play.
(T) 5th Inning – Bradley gave the Falcons the 9-7 advantage in the top of the fifth as the left fielder scored on a throwing error by the first basemen after advancing to third on a ground out by Garcia.
(B) 5th Inning – Lasell rallied together in the bottom of the fifth as Jesse Tejero and Evan Michalek started off the inning with back-to-back triples, cutting the score to within one, 9-8, before Hector Conscione drove in the tying run on a sacrifice file to left field. A batter later, Beckerman would put the Lasers up, 10-9, as he recorded his second home run of the game and forced the Falcons to go to freshman pitcher Jay Palais (Farmington, Conn.). The right-hander from Farmington finished the inning strong with a strikeout.
(T) 6th Inning – With one out, Scully recorded his 10th home run of the season as he hit a deep bomb over the left field fence on the first pitch thrown at him. Shortly after, Clark put the Falcons back up on top, 11-10, thanks to a RBI single down the left field line.
(B) 6th Inning – Tejero and Concione struck again for the Lasers as the duo drove in a total of five runs, including a four-run grand slam from Concione to give the hosts the 15-11 advantage midway through the inning. Following the grand slam, freshman Shawn McFeggan (Anaheim, Calif.) would come in to relieve Palais and collect the final two outs of the inning, despite allowing a walk.
(T) 8th Inning – Two innings later, Albertus Magnus broke the silence with a one-run, 15-12, one hit inning by Warren. With two outs and a runner on first, Warren would clear the bases with a triple to center field, but the Falcons would leave two runners on base.
(B) 8th Inning – Lasell continued to swing the bat as the Lasers added three runs to their total, extending their lead to 18-12.
INSIDE THE STATS
- The Falcons first scoreless inning came in the top of the seventh as the visitors went down 1-2-3.
- Warren led the offensive attack for Albertus Magnus as the rookie recorded a perfect 5-of-5 performance at the plate as well as added a team-high two RBI and two runs scored.
- Scully would lead the team in the runs category with four.
- The Albertus Magnus bullpen collected 19 hits, nine walks, seven strikeouts and three home runs.
- Lasell finished the first round 19-of-41 at the plate as well as posted a team batting average of .463.
- Beckerman and Coscione of Lasell registered a team-high five RBI while Beckerman allowed a team-high four runs to score.
