NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College baseball head coach Brian Leighton (14th season) has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2018 season. In total, the Falcons will take to the diamond 38 times, highlighted by their annual spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. and 14 home contests in front of their home crowd at Rochford Field.
Albertus Magnus is coming off a 10-21-1 campaign in which the squad advanced to its seventh straight GNAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed thanks to a 5-9 mark in league play. This season, the squad will look to a strong core of returners and some new talent at the dish and on the bump to move up in the GNAC standings.
Albertus Magnus opens the season with a non-conference doubleheader clash at Saint Joseph's of Brooklyn (3/4) before heading down South during spring break for a week's worth of action as part of the Ripken Experience.
After returning to Connecticut, Albertus will host its first home game with a non-conference doubleheader against Pine Manor (3/22). Three days later, the Falcons hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Elms (3/25) followed by a nine-inning showdown at Coast Guard (3/26). Albertus Magnus will wrap up the month of March with a two-game series against Mitchell (3/28) and a road tilt at Eastern Connecticut State University (3/29).
Albertus Magnus will start the month of April on the road at Pine Manor (4/2) then the return home for a three-game home stand with a single game against Mount Saint Vincent (4/4) followed by its GNAC opener against Suffolk (4/7). The following day, the Falcons hit the road for their first conference road doubleheader at Johnson & Wales before hosting Worcester State (4/11) and Rivier (4/14).
The next day, the Falcons travel up north to Standish, Me. to tackle Saint Joseph's of Maine (4/15) in a GNAC doubleheader clash. Albertus then returns to Rochford Field for a pair of doubleheaders against New Rochelle (4/18) and Anna Maria (4/22).
Albertus Magnus will then close out 2018 with a six-game road trip at Norwich (4/22), Western Connecticut State University (4/25) and Lasell (4/28).
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship is set to begin on Tuesday, May 1. The second round will be held on May 3, followed by the semifinals on May 5th and the championship game on May 6th.
