Winthrop, Mass. - Freshman outfielder Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College baseball team has been named this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Co-Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Spataj slashed .400/.500/1.000 in a 1-2 week, going 4-for-10 with six RBI, two runs scored, two home runs (including a grand slam) and two walks in a 1-2 week for the Falcons. The rookie was crucial in the doubleheader split at Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon as the outfielder opened the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored and a home run in a 11-5 loss, before putting together a 1-for-3 effort at the dish in the nightcap, to go along with a walk, a run scored, four RBI and a home run/grand slam in a 11-10 win.
The baseball team returns to the diamond on Monday, March 25 with a road non-conference game at Coast Guard. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
