New London, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball team dropped it's season opener 97-72 to host Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday night. The Falcons were led by sophomore guard James Economopoulos (Wallingford, CT/Lyman Hall) and his team high 16 points on 5-7 shooting including 4-5 from the three point line.
Albertus was outrebounded 56-28 in the game and struggled to find their rhythm from the field shooting just 32.9 percent from the field and just 21.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Coast Guard was led by sophomore forward Greg Marshall (Gaithersburg, MD) and his team-high 27 points. Sophomore forward Jimmy Kundsen (Ridge, NY) added a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with 16 points. Senior forward Jevon James (St. Thomas, VI) and freshman forward John Benedict (Cumming, GA) added double-doubles on the night.
Albertus senior guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) had 15 points, junior guard Byron Reaves(Hamden, CT/Hamden) added 14 points while sophomore guard Arshad Jackson (Hartford, CT/Hartford Public) was also in double figures with 11 points. Freshman forward Darius Watson (New Britain, CT/New Britain) had a team-high seven rebounds to go with his six points in his collegiate debut.
The Falcons drop to 0-1, 0-0 GNAC while Coast Guard improves to 1-1, 0-0 NEWMAC on teh young season.
Albertus hosts their home opener on Sunday November 28th at 1pm against visiting Becker College.
