Newton, MA - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball team soared to a 78-58 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Lasell College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons received a career and game high 24 points from freshman forward Darius Watson (New Britain, CT/New Britain) who also grabbed nine rebounds. Junior forward Ray Askew (New Haven, CT/Career) added 23 points and a game high 13 rebounds to go along with three blocks in the game.
The Falcons used a trio of scoring runs to cruise to victory in their GNAC opener.
Albertus made a 6-1 run to close out the first half and take a 37-31 lead into the break.
The Falcons continued wher ethey left off going on a 9-0 run to open the second half and take a 49-39 lead with 14:45 remaining. Lasell responded with a 9-2 run of their own cutting the Falcon lead to 51-48 with 10:39 remaining.
Albertus then pulled away for good with an 11-2 run with just under seven minutes remaining in the game. The Falcons cruised the rest of the way leading by double digits the remainder of the game.
Lasell College was led by sophomore guard Sean Bertanza (Trumbull, CT/Trinity Pawling) and his team high 15 points. Bertanza was a reserve for the Falcons last season.
Albertus improves to 3-2, 1-0 GNAC on the season while Lasell College drops to 0-6, 0-2 GNAC.
The Falcons host Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in a non-conference game.
