Four Falcons scored in double-figures as the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team picked up a dominating 110-70 win over Suffolk on Monday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The victory improves the Falcons' overall record to 18-1, while they move to 13-0 in league play with their 13th straight victory.
Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.), who tallied 31 points in Saturday's win, finished tonight's league game with 21 to mark his 12th game of the season with 20 or more points. Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) added 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. The junior also chipped in with eight assists and three steals in 24 minutes of work.
Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) tallied double figures for the 17th time this season as he finished the night with 12 points. Troy Owens (Bridgeport, Conn.) came off the bench for the Falcons and shot 4-of-4 from the field for 10 points.
The Falcons were able to put the game away in the first half as they opened up tonight's contest with a 17-6 run in the first six minutes of play then extended their lead to as much as 32 with 1:48 left in the half. Jackson led the Falcons in the first frame with 15 points as he shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor, including a 3-of-3 showing from behind the arc.
Askew had 15 first-half points as he also pulled down five boards in the frame. Watson was 5-of-8 from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play as he added 10 points. Before the break, Albertus shot 66.7-percent the field, while they also shot 66.7-percent from three-point land. The Falcons scored 23 points off 16 first-half turnovers by the Rams.
The Falcons held a 62-31 advantage at intermission before opening the second half with a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 42. Albertus shot 48.8-percent in the second half and finished the night with a 57.5-percent clip. The Falcons also shot 7-of-16 from behind the arc, a 43.8-percent showing, while they held Suffolk to a 35.1-percent showing from the field.
The Falcons scored 70 points in the paint, while all active players on the Albertus Magnus roster played as the Falcons' bench scored 48 points.
Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) scored 10 first-half points en route to finishing the night with 20 to lead Suffolk in the loss. The Rams fall to 5-8 in GNAC play and 8-12 overall.
Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) added nine points and seven boards for the Falcons as he played 16 minutes in tonight's contest.
Albertus returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 2 as the Falcons travel to Anna Maria College for a GNAC match-up. The Falcons and AMCats faced off on Jan. 21 as Albertus won in convincing fashion by a score of 71-51.
