The #7 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team shot 55% to defeat Lasell College 96-86 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday night in Newton, Mass.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 18-1 on the year and an impressive 12-0 in league play, while
Lasell dropped to 5-13 overall and 4-8 in GNAC action. Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) continued to lead the Falcons as he finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season.
Ljuljdjuraj scored 15 of those points in the first half as the Falcons shot 53.1% in the opening 20 minutes of play.
After the Falcons opened the contest with a 7-0 run in the first two minutes, they went on to take a 13-3 lead before extending that advantage to 12 points at 18-6 six minutes into the game.
The Lasers battled back and cut the Albertus lead to nine at 39-30 with 3:40 left before the break.
Lasell hit four-straight three pointers to cut the Falcons' lead to three at 45-42 with less than two minutes on the clock. A Ljuljdjuraj layup with less than a minute left in the first half made the score 47-42 before Richard O'Brien hit three-straight free throws to go into the break down two.
In the opening half, Lasell was 12-of-27 from the field as 10 of those 12 field goals were from behind the arc. For the Lasers, it was a 62.5% showing.
Brock Walters led Lasell with 14 first-half points as he shot 4-of-5 from the floor, including a 3-of-3 clip from behind the arc, and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.
In the second half, Albertus shot 57.1% en route to the 10-point victory. After Lasell took the lead at 61-59, the Falcons put together a 13-1 run to take a 10-point advantage and never looked back.
Tonight's win marked the 14th straight for the Falcons over Lasell as the Falcons are now 14-4 all-time against the Lasers.
O'Brien finished with 23 for Lasell.
The Falcons will host Suffolk on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
