New Haven, Conn. – Senior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team was selected to the Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List on Thursday morning, which is awarded to the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in the affiliations of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA.
This season, this senior has been named GNAC Player of the Week eight times and leads the league as well as the team in points averaging a career-high 26.5 and 14.3 rebounds a game while shooting 55.4 percent from the floor, ranking him fifth in field goal percentage in the GNAC. He scored 20 or more points 21 times, including a career-high 42 points against Anna Maria back on Jan. 23. He has accumulated 20 double-doubles this winter and averages 2.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
He currently ranks fourth all-time in career-points with 1,715 and second all-time in career-rebounds with 1,092.
The 50 players on the Watch List are selected from a group of over 1,100 schools from the affiliations listed above. The Bevo Francis Award committee selects the group based on criteria of individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success.
The list will be narrowed down to 25 players in a Watch List published on March 15. The finalists will then be announced in a highlight video that will be released on March 31.
