Winthrop, Mass. - Freshman Davon Warner (New Haven, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team was named this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
In just 18.5 minutes per game off the bench, Warner was a microwave in helping the Falcons go 2-0 against top GNAC opponents to solidify a share of the league's regular-season title and the top seed in next week's GNAC Tournament. He averaged 18.0 points and did not commit a turnover while shooting 54.5% (12-22 FG) overall, including 9-of-15 (60%) from beyond the arc. The rookie opened with 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-9 3PT) and two rebounds across 22 minutes in a huge 89-85 home win over JWU before scoring 19 points (6-10 FG, 4-6 3PT, 3-3 FT) in a mere 15 minutes to go with two caroms in a 93-87 victory over Suffolk that sealed the top seed for the Falcons.
Top-seeded Albertus Magnus will host eighth-seeded Lasell College in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Tournament on Tuesday, February 19 at 8pm in New Haven, Conn.
