Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at the Mitchell Tournament

Groton, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team opened the 2016 fall season with a fourth-place finish at the Mitchell Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The one-day, 18-hole event was contested at the par-71 Shennecossett Golf Course.

The Falcons entered the clubhouse with an aggregate score of 382 to finish just 10 strokes off the pace of third-place Becker. Wentworth won the event with a team toal of 315 and the host Mariners landed in second with a score of 363.

Albertus Magnus senior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) carded the low round of the day for the Falcons with a 78 to finish third. He led the field in par-5 scoring, shooting one under par on those holes. Macchia recorded a team-best two birdies to go along with eight pars.

Junior Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) landed in 12th thanks to a 91. Schatz had a pair of pars, while shooting two-over par on the par-5's.

In his first event with the team, junior Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.) finished in 15th with a 106. Rounding out the field for the Falcons was sophomore Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.) with a 107 and senior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) finished with a 110.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, September 15, at the MCLA Invitational at Berkshire Country Club.
