New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team defeated Mitchell by 13 strokes in a dual match on Friday afternoon at Alling Memorial Golf Course. The Falcons carded a team total of 368, while the Mariners entered the clubhouse with an aggregate score of 381.
The victory is the first of the fall in dual-match action for Albertus Magnus and the second in the program's young history.
Albertus Magnus saw three players finish in the top-four led by senior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) with an eight-over par 80. Macchia earned low individual medalist honors thanks to carding a pair of birdies and seven pars. He ended the day with a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Senior Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) had arguably his strongest round as a Falcon, carding seven pars en route to an 89 which was good enough to land in third-place. Junior lefty Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) played well off the tee for AMC and finished in fourth with a 94. Schatz had a birdie on the par-4 fifth and added five pars.
The low scorer for the Mariners was David Eichelberg with an 83.
Rounding out the scorers for the hosts were senior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) and junior Tom Crocco (Kings Park, N.Y.). Moore picked up two pars and finished with a 105, while Crocco registered four pars and finished the day with a 119. Sophomore Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.) competed individually for the Falcons and shot a 111.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, September 27, competing in the one-day Westfield State Invitational at Tekoa Country Club. Last fall, the Falcons finished ninth in the 18-hole event.
