Westfield, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team finished 12th with an aggregate score of 363 at the 2016 Westfield State Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The one-day event featured a field of 14 teams and was contested at the 6,315 yard, par-71 Tekoa Country Club.
Babson won the 18-hole event thanks to all five of their players shooting 75 or lower. The Falcons finished 13 strokes ahead of 13th-place Mitchell and 13 strokes behind the pace set by 11th-place Emmanuel. Albertus Magnus continues to improve this autumn, as the team has improved its scoring average each round. The team total of 363 is the lowest in program history.
Once again, senior No. 1 Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) was the low Albertus Magnus scorer with an 81. He opened with a three-over par 39 on the front and closed with a 42 on the back. He entered the clubhouse in a tie for 21st.
Junior Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) continues to improve for the Falcons and he shot a career-low three-over par on the front nine. Schatz ended the tournament with an 86 and finished in a tie for 39th.
Rounding out the competitors for the Falcons was sophomore Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.) with a 106.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Friday, September 30, with a home dual match versus Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales that is slated to begin at 1:30 pm at Alling Memorial Golf Course.
