Junior Men's Golfer Zach Schatz Named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College junior men's golfer Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship Team as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Schatz and the Falcons recently completed the second varsity season in program history on the links. In 2016, the team amassed a pair of dual-match victories, while performing well in tournament action. AMC topped in-state rival Mitchell and Eastern Nazarene at home in dual matches this autumn with strong performances from their top-three players, one of which is Schatz.

The left-handed junior has firmly established himself as the team's No. 2 player in 2016 after a strong sophomore campaign last fall. Schatz picked up a pair of top-five finishes this year and he also landed in 12th at the season-opening Mitchell Invitational. He has a stroke average of 88 and he shot a season-best 86 at the Westfield State Invitational. Most recently, he finished in a tie for 37th at the GNAC Championship thanks to carding a two-day total of 169.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions, 12 associate member institutions, and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
