Brunetti Sets School Record for Saves in Falcons' Loss to Norwich

New Haven, Conn. – Junior goalkeeper John Brunetti (West Haven, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team set a new school record in saves with 30, but the Falcons fell at home to Norwich University, 18-3, on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference showdown at Celentano Field.

Norwich came out of the gate hot scoring three unanswered goals to take the early lead until back-to-back goals from junior James May (Branford, Conn.) cut the Cadets' lead to one, 3-2, with 4:06 left in the first. However, Norwich would score a pair of goals with less than five seconds left on the clock to take a four-goal advantage, 6-2.

Over the next two quarters, Albertus Magnus saw the Cadets' lead grow to 13, 15-2, after being outscored 9-0. Senior Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) would break the Falcons' silence at the 14:41 mark, in the fourth, to bring the score to 15-3, but Norwich sealed to the road win, 18-3, after closing out regulation with a 3-0 scoring run.

  • Senior Niko Ames (Sunderland, Mass.) finished out the game with a team-high eight ground balls, a caused turnover and an assist.
  • Senior Kevin Henninger (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Falcons' defensive unit with a game-high four caused turnovers as well as collected three ground balls.
  • Along with his two goals, May also recorded an assist.
  • Payden Masaracchia paced the Cadets' offense with five points, four goals and an assist, while Josh Jenkins tallied four points, two goals and two assists.
  • Albertus Magnus finished the game 21-for-32 in clears and 9-of-24 in face-offs.
  • Norwich was 15-of-24 in face-offs and 36-for-38 in clear attempts.
  • Two of the Cadets' 13 goals were on man-up opportunities.
  • The Cadets outshot the hosts 76-14 and won the ground ball battle, 62-31.
  • Both teams had two face-off violations each.
  • Freshman Tyler Sicoli (Shoreham, N.Y.) posted a season-high seven ground balls as well as recorded an assist and a caused turnover.


Albertus Magnus returns to the field next week against Lyndon State, Johnson & Wales and Saint Joseph's of Maine. Next up for the Cadets is Lasell and Mount Ida.
