Sophomore forward Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a rebound off a shot from freshman forward Mark Robinson (West Haven, Conn.) with five minutes remaining in the second overtime to give Albertus the 1-0 win over host Eastern Connecticut State University Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman keeper Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.) played extremely well to keep the game scoreless entering overtime. Volta made all nine of his saves in regulation, five coming in the second half with Eastern holding a 16-9 advantage in shots and 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
The save of the game would come in the 85th minute when Volta deflected a low hard shot from sophomore forward Tyler Jones (Vernon, Conn.) in a one on one scenario. The Falcons remain undefeated and improve to 4-0-2 , 0-0-1 GNAC while Eastern Connecticut State moves to 1-2-2, 0-0 LEC. Albertus returns to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Lasell College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup.
