Nashua, N.H. – The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team fell on the road to Rivier University, 2-0, on Monday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Raider Field.
The Falcons (7-5-1, 2-3-1 GNAC) suffered their first conference road loss of the fall, while the Raiders (7-5-1, 3-2-1 GNAC) are now riding a four game unbeaten streak in league tilts.
Rivier opened the scoring late in the first half as senior midfielder Jeffrey Krahn netted an unassisted tally in the 35th minute. The eventual game-winning strike was Krahn's second tally of the season.
In the second half, the Raiders built on their lead to make it a two-goal game. Senior midfielder Alex Armstrong converted a feed from junior Ben Noelk in the 66th minute to give Rivier a 2-0 advantage.
In net, AMC sophomore goalkeeper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) turned aside four shots in a losing effort. On the opposite end, Gary Archambault made two saves to register the shutout.
Albertus Magnus seniors Matt Mueller (Cheshire, Conn.) and Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) each recorded one shot on goal. Mueller took a team-best five shots, while two other Falcons had two shots apiece.
The guests held a 13-11 advantage in shots and took four corners compared to just two for the hosts. The Falcons have now been blanked in back-to-back contests and have lost three straight games overall.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 15, with a road conference showdown versus Johnson & Wales that is slated to begin at 2:30 pm. The contest is a rematch of last fall's GNAC Championship game as the Falcons are looking to avenge in a 1-0 setback in that meeting.
