Men's Soccer Picked to Finish Fifth in GNAC Preseason Poll

Winthrop, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The poll, which was released on Tuesday morning, is voted on by the league's 11 coaches.

The Falcons earned 74 points to finish 12 points behind Suffolk for fourth-place. Defending conference champion Saint Joseph's of Maine received 10 first place votes to earn 119 points and take the top spot, 14 points ahead of second-place Norwich.

Rounding out the top-five in the poll were Johnson & Wales with 103 points in third, just 17 points ahead of fourth-place Suffolk followed by the Falcons.

Making up the remainder of the poll after Albertus Magnus was Emmanuel with 60 points, Regis (Mass.) with 59 points, Mount Ida with 46 points, Rivier with 37 points, Anna Maria with 21 points and Lasell landed 11th with 16 points.

The Falcons open the 2017 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a home non-conference clash against Nichols. The tilt gets underway at 4 p.m. at Celentano Field.

Founded in 1995, the GNAC is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
