Men's Soccer Plays to a Draw with Emmanuel (Mass.) in GNAC Action

Boston, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Emmanuel (Mass.) on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Roberto Clemente Field.

Emmanuel (Mass.) opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play as Travis Cole scored his second goal of the season to give the hosts the early 1-0 edge. On Cole's tally, Cameron Messier picked up the assist with a nice pass to set the play up. Albertus Magnus attempted to tie the game at three different occassions, including a shot on goal from senior Justyn Broderick (Orange, Conn.), but the visitors would trail by one heading into halftime.

With under two minutes remaining in regulation, Albertus Magnus knotted the game at one, 1-1, as senior forward Ritchy Jean Pierre (Fairfield, Conn.) played the ball up to Broderick who converted his second marker of the fall. Albertus Magnus would manage to get one more shot off, but unfortunately the shot was no good and the game would go into overtime.

Neither squad was able to breakthrough over the final 20 minutes and the tightly matched contest ended in a draw.


  • Albertus Magnus held an 18-12 edge in shots, including an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Both team registered seven corner kicks.
  • Sophomore Matt Cotto (Startford, Conn.) and freshman Jonathan Beaucejour (Wallingford, Conn.) paced the Falcons' offense with a four shots a piece, while a trio of players added two shots the visitors total.
  • Emmanuel's Eymar Principe recorded a team-high four shots and three shots on goal.
  • Albertus Magnus keeper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) registered seven saves, while Emmanuel's Jonathan Ferrarini recorded 10 saves between the pipes.
  • The Falcons finished the game with 12 fouls, compared the Saints seven.


Albertus Magnus returns home this Saturday, Oct. 7 as the Falcons welcome Lasell College to Celentano Field for a GNAC showdown beginning at 1 p.m. Emmanuel (Mass.) also returns to action on Saturday and will host Suffolk University at 12 p.m.
