Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College men's volleyball team blanked host Medgar Evers, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Cougars Cave. With their second straight win, the Falcons improved to 2-2 on the year, while the Cougars dropped their sixth in a row to fall to 0-6. Albertus Magnus netted a 25-19, 25-15 and 25-19 victory.

The three-set triumph was the first shutout of the winter for Albertus and their first road win of the season as well. AMC held Medgar Evers to fewer than 20 points in each game by finishing strong in all three frames.

Senior outside hitter Justin Tharau (Burlington, Conn.) paced the Falcon attack with a team-high 10 kills, while classmate Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) added nine and junior Joshua Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) registered eight. Freshman setter Jeremy Oritz (Bridgeport, Conn.) continued his strong play with 26 assists and seven digs.

At the net, Ortiz and senior opposite Connor Filkins (Wallingford, Conn.) combined for two kills. Tharau also contributed seven digs on the defensive side and six aces at the service line.

As a team, the Falcons produced 33 kills, nine service aces and 21 digs.

Albertus Magnus returns to action  on Sunday, February 21, with a home tri-match versus CCNY and Medgar Evers beginning at 11:00 am.
