Falcons Drop 4-1 Decision to Swarthmore

Swarthmore's Melissa O'Connor struck out 10 as the Garnet defeated the Albertus Magnus softball team 4-1 in non-conference play in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Wednesday afternoon.

Swarthmore scored early, in the top of the second inning, before tacking on runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings en route to the 4-1 victory.

Albertus (3-1) picked up its first loss of the season and scored its lone run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Freshman Gilmary Gonzalez (New Britain, Conn.) recorded an RBI single to center field to plate junior Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) as the Falcons cut the Garnet lead to 4-1.

Unfortunately, the Falcons' late inning rally was cut short as O'Connor struck out two in the frame and registered an assist on a groundout to end the game.

Manning doubled to lead-off the seventh inning. After a strikeout, Michelle Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) walked to put runners on first and second before Gonzales' two-out base hit.

Jackie Medina (Bridgeport, Conn.) took the loss for the Falcons as she threw 7.0 innings, while allowing 10 hits, four runs and two walks.

The Falcons will face Waldorf on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. as the Warriors are 8-7 on the year.
