Led by 17 hits, including two from Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) and three from Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus softball team cruised to an 18-1 victory over the College of New Rochelle in five innings.
With the win, the Falcons improved to 9-11 as Figueroa finished the contest 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBI, while she hit her second home run of the day. Manning added a 3-for-4 effort with two runs and three RBI as well as two triples.
Freshman pitcher Jackie Medina (Bridgeport, Conn.) improved to 6-7 on the year with the win as she took the mound after an inning of work from Manning. Manning gave up one hit and one run in one inning of work, before Medina gave up just one hit in four innings. She also struck out seven batters.
In the top of the first inning, Albertus scored four runs on three hits and one New Rochelle error. With two runners on, Figueroa homered over the wall in centerfield to give Albertus a 3-0 lead. After an infield error, Manning hit her first triple of the game to extend the Falcons' lead to four.
Freshman Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) finished the game with two hits, three runs and two RBI, while freshman Michelle Barillaro (Meriden, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Both Brianna Lord (Westerly, R.I.) and Medina added two hits to the Falcons' tally.
Albertus will host the University of Saint Joseph on Friday, April 5 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
