Led by home runs from sophomore Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Isabel Lopez (West Haven, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus softball team cruised to a 10-4 victory over Lasell College on Saturday afternoon in Newton, Mass.
Lopez's home run, her third of the season, came in the top of the first inning as the Falcons (12-14, 5-9) took a 3-0 lead. Lasell answered with one run in the first and another in the second to cut the lead to 3-2. Albertus added two runs in the top of the third to extend its lead as Mirto blasted a shot over the wall to score Lopez from first, who walked to get on base. For Mirto, it was her first homer of the season. The sophomore's five homers from a year ago are a program single-season record.
Albertus scored its 10th run of the contest in the top of the seventh as Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) walked with the bases loaded.
Lasell put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh but only scored two runs.
Amanda Green (Shelton, Conn.) threw the complete game for the Falcons as she earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the year. She allowed 11 hits, three earned runs and two walks. Lasell's Alison Saluti picked up the loss to fall to 3-10 on the year. She allowed five hits and five runs in three innings of work.
