Wesleyan combined for 10 runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-2 victory in five innings over the Albertus Magnus softball on Monday evening.
With the dominating win, Wesleyan improved to 19-6 on the year, while the Falcons fell to 13-17 with the non-conference loss.
Laura Getchell earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals as she improved to 7-4 on the year. She struck out six, walked three and gave up three hits in five innings. Amanda Green (Shelton, Conn.) picked up the loss to fall to 3-3 on the year. She gave up 10 runs on 13 hits, while she walked four.
Wesleyan scored five runs in the opening inning on four hits, including a three-run home run by Jill Gately, her third of the season. The Cardinals added two runs in the top of the second inning thanks to RBIs from Amanda Roosa and Matti Peters. The Cardinals' scored three more runs in the third on five hits, including an RBI triple by Ashley McLaren as two of her teammates scored on the play.
Albertus put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman Isabel Lopez (West Haven, Conn.) walked to lead off the frame before advancing to second on a passed ball. With two outs, freshman Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) registered an RBI single as Lopez scored from second. Gilmary Gonzalez (New Britain, Conn.) followed with an RBI single as Puccilli scored the Falcons' second run of the game.
