Softball Splits Doubleheader Against SUNY-Canton and Spalding

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team split a doubleheader against SUNY-Canton and Spalding on Monday at the NMB Park and Sports Complete Field No. 6 in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Falcons cruised past the Kangaroos, 7-0, in seven innings before falling to the Golden Eagles, 3-1, to end the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 3rd Inning – After two scoreless innings, Albertus Magnus jumped on the board first scoring four runs the the top of the third to give the visitors the early advantage.

(T) 4th Inning – The Falcons continued to swing the bat in the top of the fourth as the visitors earned two runs on four hits, including a two-run RBI single from Laura Anderson with bases loaded and two outs.

(T) 5th Inning – Albertus Magnus threatened the Kangaroos again in the top of the fifth as the Falcons loaded the bases with one out. However, SUNY-Canton ended the threat with an infield fly and a ground out to shortstop.

(T) 6th Inning – With two outs, Brianna Whitfield (West Islip, N.Y.) found herself on base, following a single to left field, before Daysia Wehder (Queens, N.Y.) doubled to right center allowing Whitfield to score, giving the Falcons the 7-0 edge entering the bottom of inning.

  • Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) picked up her first win of the season as she threw a complete shutout and recorded six strikeouts.
  • Jordan Podkladek earned the loss for the Kangaroos after allowing seven runs on eight hits and recorded three walks.
  • Following today's win over the Kangaroos, head coach Ed Emielita collected his 100th career win.
