POST SEASON BEGINS

The Albertus Magnus College softball team finished the regular season with a 27-13 overall record and earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament thanks to a 15-7 mark in league action.

The Falcons open post-season play on Thursday, May 4, with a road contest against eighth-seeded Simmons College at 3:00 pm in Providence, R.I.. The winning team will then face top-seeded and hosts Johnson & Wales at 5:30 p.m.

However, if the Falcons fall to the Sharks in game three then the team will play Saturday, May 6 against either No. 6 Norwich or No. 2 Saint Joseph's of Maine in the elimination game.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS

  • Albertus Magnus topped the 20-win plateau for the third straight season and the fifth time in program history.
  • Junior Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) paces the Falcons' offense as well as leads the league in six different categories such as runs (51), hits (59), doubles (14), home runs (10), RBI (48) and total bases (107). She also ranks second in the league in batting average (.447), on-base percentage (.510) and slugging percentage (.811). 
  • As a team, Albertus Magnus is hitting .343 at the plate and also leads the conference in hits, doubles and triples.
  • The Falcons' bullpen currently has an ERA of 3.31 as well as holding a .290 batting average against.
  • Junior Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn) and freshman Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) are ranked amongst the top five in wins with 13 and 11, respectively.
  • Ferraro currently has an ERA of 2.70 while Anderson holds a 2.96 ERA.

SCOUTING SIMMONS

  • Simmons leads the all-time series over Albertus Magnus 22-10.
  • This season the Falcons went 1-1 against the Sharks.
