Softball Picked to Finish Fourth in GNAC Preseason Poll

Winthrop, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team was picked to finish fourth in the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The poll, which was released on Thursday afternoon, is voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.

The Falcons received 138 points behind first-place and three-time GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales (R.I.). The Wildcats received 12 of a possible 13 first-place votes to take the top spot in the annual preseason poll.

Suffolk finished second in the ledger with 150 points and a first-place nod while Saint Joseph's of Maine landed in third with 139 votes. To round out the top-five was the Falcons followed by Saint Joseph's (Conn.) with 102.

Simmons finished sixth with 98 points, followed by Emmanuel (Mass.) with 92 points and Norwich with 90 points.

Finishing out the rest of the poll was Mount Ida (58 points), Regis (Mass.) (49 points), Rivier (43 points), Lasell (37 points) and Anna Maria (19 points).

The softball team opens the 2018 campaign on Sunday, March 11th as the Falcons take part in the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Falcons will play eight games over a five-day span.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and nearly 4,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
