Johnson & Wales Knocks Off Softball in GNAC Tournament Opener

Providence, R.I. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team saw its season come to a close on Tuesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex as the Falcons fell to Johnson & Wales University by a score of 2-0 in the first round of the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Tournament.

With the victory, the Wildcats advance to the double elimination portion of the GNAC Tournament and will face Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.


After two scoreless inning, Johnson & Wales struck first scoring its first run of the day following an RBI single to left from Ally Mishol.

Two innings later, Meghan Gavin started the fifth with a single through the left side before a single up the middle from Summer Ramundo allowed Gavin to advance to third. With two outs, Gavin crossed home plate on a Devin Scales' pinch hit sacrifice fly, giving the Wildcats a two-run cushion.

The Falcons had their chances in both the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. In the top of the fifth, Johnson & Wales Kristin Frost got Madison LaBossiere (Griswold, Conn.) to strikeout with runners on second and third. Albertus had a runner on third with one out in the sixth, but Frost induced a pop up then struck out Marissa Guglielmi (Branford, Conn.) to end the inning.


  • Frost earned the win on the mound and improved to 9-4 on the year. She struck out 11 batters while only surrendering four hits.
  • Albertus was held to only four hits – Jess Stettinger (East Haven, Conn.), Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.), Kristin Cunning (Hoboken, N.J.) and Madison Murphy (Milford, Conn.) - on the afternoon.
  • Megan Antaya led the hosts with two hits while seven different Wildcats added a hit each.
  • L. Anderson suffered the loss on the mound allowing two runs on nine hits while striking out four over 6.0 innings.
