The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team fell to Muhlenberg by a score of 74-42 on Friday night in the Falcons' first game of the Scotty Wood Tournament in Allentown, Pa. With the loss, the Falcons fall to 1-2 on the year, while Muhlenberg improves to 2-1 overall.
Two free throws by Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead 1:38 into tonight's contest. Those two points proved to be the Falcons only lead of the night as the Mules went on an 11-2 run, which extended to 15-4, capped by a pair of free throws by Hannah Rush.
Midway through the first half, the Mules went on a 12-0 run to take a 31-12 lead during a span of 4:15. Muhlenberg's runs allowed the host team to control the tempo of the game.
At the break, the Mules led 37-19 as the Falcons' shot just 15.8% from the field in the opening frame.
Muhlenberg shot 48.3% (14-of-29) in the second half to finish the game shooting 41.7% (25-of-60). The Mules found themselves on the line 33 times and connected on 20 of those tries. Albertus finished the night shooting 20.6% (14-of-68) from the floor but hit just four of their 25 attempts from behind the arc.
Albertus was led by Bolden with 10 points off the bench, while she added six rebounds. Tyler Evans (Stamford, Conn.) added seven rebounds and six points, while Alexa Riley (Cromwell, Conn.) tallied nine points and four rebounds, respectively.
The Mules were led by Leanna Tallamy with 21 points and six rebounds as she shot 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. Nicole Pepe added 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting for the Mules.
The Falcons are now 0-2 all-time against the Mules as they have now met in back-to-back seasons.
Albertus will play Wilkes tomorrow afternoon in the consolation game of the tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m. Muhlenberg will take on Scranton in the Championship game.
