Freshman Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) led the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team to a 64-49 non-conference victory over Purchase on Saturday afternoon in New York. Bolden shot 9-of-18 from the floor in 37 minutes of work, while she added 11 rebounds as well for her first career double-double.
With the win, the Falcons even their record at 4-4 on the year, while Purchase falls to 2-5 overall.
Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) scored 12 points to go along with five rebounds, while Tyler Evans (Stamford, Conn.) tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals. She also shot 8-of-16 from the floor. Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) pulled down 12 boards to lead the Falcons.
Today's contest started off close as the teams exchanged baskets before the Falcons put together a 12-4 run to take a 10-point lead midway through the first half. At the break, the Falcons led 30-23.
The Falcons' largest lead of the day was the final score as it came with 56 seconds left of the clock at 15 points.
Albertus shot just 35% from the floor and struggled behind the arc (2-of-20) despite picking up the non-conference victory but the Falcons dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Panthers 48-28.
Albertus also tallied 26 points off of 23 Purchase turnovers.
Alexa Riley (Cromwell, Conn.) came off the bench to score seven points for the Falcons.
Purchase was led by three players in double figures, while Jeidar Cole led the way with 19 points.
The Falcons will have a week off due to final exams and will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 13 when they host Farmingdale State at 1:00 p.m. in the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
