The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team fell to Coast Guard 80-57 in non-conference action on Monday night in New London, Conn.
The loss moves the Falcons to 11-13 on the year, while Coast Guard improved to 16-7 with the Bears' ninth-straight win.
Coast Guard was led by four players with double figures in scoring as Alexi Howland led all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Torie Sutherland registered her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds, including the 500th of her career with the Bears.
Albertus was led by freshman Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) as she tallied her own double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. For the freshman, it was the 11th-straight game in which she has registered 20 or more points, including the fourth consecutive.
Freshman Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) came off the bench to score 11 points for her second-straight game in double figures.
After the Bears opened the game with an eight-point lead, at 10-2 less than four minutes into the contest, the Falcons climbed back into the game, cutting the Bears' lead to two with 8:24 left in the half on an Alexa Riley (Cromwell, Conn.) three pointed.
Coast Guard finished the half with a 23-10 run to take a 41-24 lead at the halftime break. The Bears pushed out to a 27-point lead in the second half, their largest of the contest, en route to the 23-point win.
Coast Guard shot 44.8% (30-of-67) from the floor and made 11-of-30 (36.7%) from beyond the arc. The 11 three pointers marked the most for the Bears this season. The Falcons were 12-of-36 (29.9%) from the field while going 33.3% (2-of-6) from three.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they close out the regular season with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Anna Maria College. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
