Boston, MA - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team dropped a 71-53 road decision against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Suffolk University on Thursday evening.
The Falcons were playing short-handed as their second leading scorer/rebounder was out with an illness. Albertus battled in the first quarter before Suffolk used a pair of runs to take a 29-19 lead into the second quarter of play. Both teams would battle back and forth in the second quarter with Suffolk taking a 41-31 lead into halftime.
The Falcons would cut the Suffolk lead to 41-35 with 7:09 remaining in the quarter before Suffolk would prove to be too much for the short-handed visitors taking a 55-41 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Junior forward Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) scored a game-high 16 points and team-high 12 rebounds on 6-9 shooting to lead Albertus. Junior forward Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored a career-high 15 points on 7-13 shooting in the setback.
Suffolk University was led by senior guard Georgia Bourikas (Hull, Mass.) and a game-high 16 points and freshman forward Alexis Hackett (Charlton, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds while adding 13 points.
Albertus drops to (8-6, 3-2 GNAC) while Suffolk improves to (9-5, 4-1 GNAC).
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, January 15 when they travel to Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Johnson and Wales University that is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
