New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team and sixth-year head coach J.R Fredette has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. The Falcons are coming off a campaign in which they finished with 14 victories and qualified for the Greater Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament for the third straight year.
During the winter, the Falcons will take to the court 25 times, highlighted by 16 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilts and 12 contests in front of their crowd at "The Nest" inside the newly renovated Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
The Falcons will kick off the regular season with their home opener against in-state rival Mitchell on Wednesday Nov. 15 (7 p.m.) before participating in the Drew University Tip-Off Tournament (11/17-18) two days later. Albertus Magnus wraps up the month of November with a pair of non-conference tilts against Medgar Evers (11/21) and Western Connecticut State University (11/28).
In the month of December, the Falcons return home and open GNAC play against new foe Regis (Mass.) on Saturday Dec. 2 (1 p.m.) following with two road matches against Pine Manor (12/5) and Norwich (12/9). The Falcons are back on their home court against New Rochelle on Thursday Dec. 14 (7 p.m.) before traveling to Farmingdale State (12/16).
Albertus Magnus resumes play following the holiday break with home contests against Westfield St. on Thursday Jan. 4 (7 p.m.) and Mount Ida on Tuesday Jan. 9 (5 p.m.). Shortly after, the Falcons hit the road for the first time in 2018 as the team takes on Rivier (1/11) and Suffolk (1/13).
Albertus Magnus welcomes St. Joseph (Conn.) on Tuesday Jan. 16 (7 p.m.) for a GNAC clash before playing a road game against Emmanuel (Mass.) (1/18). Albertus Magnus will conclude the month of January with three conference games against Johnson & Wales (RI) on Saturday Jan. 20 (1 p.m.), Anna Maria on Thursday Jan. 25 (7 p.m.) and Emmanuel (Mass.) on Saturday Jan. 27 (1 p.m.).
The Falcons open the month of February with three GNAC road tilts at Simmons (2/1), Lasell (2/3) and St. Joseph (Conn.) (2/6). Albertus Magnus welcomes Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Saturday Feb. 10 (1 p.m.) before heading to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson & Wales (2/13). The women's basketball team will finish its regular season with a home match against Simmons on Saturday Feb. 17 (1 p.m.) as part of Senior Day.
