Led by Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) with seven goals, the Albertus Magnus women's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the 2015 season with a 22-8 victory over Bay Path College on Monday afternoon in New Haven.
Luna, who registered a career-high seven goals, added two assists and five ground balls to her stats line.
Albertus, now 1-3 on the year, led 11-4 at the break and outshot the Wildcats on the afternoon 43-15, including a 26-5 clip in the first half.
Albertus opened the contest with two goals by Luna in the first three minutes of play. After a Bay Path goal, Albertus jumped out to an 8-2 lead. In the opening eight minutes of play, Luna had already registered a hat trick for the Falcons.
After the halftime break, the teams' traded goals before Albertus scored six unanswered tallies to take an 18-6 lead with 17:10 left in the contest.
Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) finished the afternoon with three goals and one assist for Albertus, while Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) registered her first career goal. Ashley Guererra (Watertown, Conn.) added one goal and two assists, while Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) added two goals scored.
Kaylee Herring led Bay Path in the Wildcats' first game of the season with four goals and four assists, having a part in every score for the Bay Path offense. Dallas Jackson added two goals for the Wildcats.
Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) made six stops in net for the Falcons, while Bay Path's Nicole Gousey picked up 14 saves in 60 minutes of work in the season opener.
Albertus will head to Newton, Mass. on Wednesday to play Mount Ida College in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
