2011-12 Championships and Major Accolades
The Albertus Magnus Department of Athletics had a very successful 2011-12 year, producing two GNAC Regular-Season Championship teams, one GNAC Tournament Championship team, two All-Americans and 33 All-Conference Team selections.

Albertus Magnus Announces Athletes of the Year
At the 2012 Athletics Banquet on Tuesday, May 8, the Albertus Magnus Department of Athletics presented three student-athletes with the honor of Athlete of the Year as Samantha Farley (Shelton, Conn.) was named the Female Athlete of the Year, while both Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) and Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) were named Male Athlete of the Year.

Celebrate Frankie’s Birthday/Student-Athlete Appreciation Day
Albertus Magnus College will celebrate the birthday of its mascot, Frankie the Falcon, in honor of Student-Athlete Appreciation Day on April 4. Student-Athlete Appreciation Day is honored annually on April 6 but with the day falling on Good Friday, Frankie’s birthday will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4 at noon in the DeDominicis Dining Hall.

Boudreau, Marchitto Named to 2011 GNAC All-Conference Teams
Sarah Boudreau (Pascoug, R.I.) of the Albertus Magnus women’s soccer team has been named to the 2011 GNAC All-Conference First Team, while teammate Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) has been tagged as a Third Team member as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Albertus Magnus head men’s soccer coach Jim Bernardo and head women’s soccer coach Nick Wajnowski have been named the 2011 GNAC Coaches of the Year, announced Wednesday evening by the conference office.

Suffolk’s Leslie Hayden scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute as the seventh-seeded Rams upset the second-seeded Albertus Magnus women’s soccer team 1-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

Falcons Earn First-Ever GNAC Postseason Victory with 2-0 Shutout of Simmons
Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal in the 35th minute to lead the Albertus Magnus women’s soccer team to it’s first-ever GNAC postseason victory as the Falcons shutout Simmons College 2-0.

Soccer Playoff Games Postponed; Albertus to Host Doubleheader Monday
New Haven, CT - Due to the snowstorm that took place in New England on Saturday October 29, both Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) soccer playoff games, scheduled to be played at Albertus Magnus College were postponed. The games will be played on Monday October 31 with the Men's GNAC quarterfinal game against Mount Ida College starting at 12:00pm and the Women's GNAC quarterfinal game against Simmons College starting at 2:30 pm.

The Albertus Magnus women’s soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in GNAC action in New Haven. Albertus moves to 6-2 overall as the Falcons pick up their first conference loss of the year, moving to 4-1 in the GNAC standings. Johnson and Wales improves to 5-3 on the year and remain unbeaten in GNAC play with a record of 4-0.

Women's Soccer Releases 2011 Schedule
Head coach Nick Wajnowski announced the 2011 Albertus Magnus women’s soccer schedule on Thursday morning. The Falcons’ 2011 18-game regular-season schedule features seven home contests and 13 league match-ups. Albertus will begin the season with five consecutive road games, including a Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Sept. 10. The match at PMC sparks the start of 13-straight league matches, seven of which will be played on the Falcons’ home field.
