Freshman Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored two goals for her first career points as the Albertus Magnus women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Rivier University on Wednesday. With the win, the Falcons improve to 4-1 on the year and open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a victory.

Nelson scored her two goals in less than a minute as the Falcons' extended their lead to 4-0 with two minutes to play in the opening half.

The Falcons, who outshot the Raiders 25-12 on the afternoon, scored the game-winner and first goal of the contest in the 13th minute as Shannon Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) tallied her second goal of the year.

Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) scored her third goal of the year as she netted the Falcons' second goal in the 40th minute. The Falcons first two goals of the contest came off corners as Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) and Becky Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) tallied assists on the plays.

After coming off the bench for the Falcons late in the first half, Nelson made an immediate impact as she received a pass in the box, dodged one defender and beat the keeper for her first career goal. The assist came from freshman Dakotah Sobiech (New Britain, Conn.), who entered the contest at the same time as Nelson. For Sobiech, her assist also marked her first point of the season.

Nelson's second goal of the match came less than a minute later as she finished on a cross into the box from junior Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.).

Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.), who was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, made four saves in just over 82 minutes of work. Dineson and freshman Maria Chase (West Haven, Conn.) combined for the shutout. Chase played seven minutes in net for the Falcons and made one stop.

Rivier's Cassandra Brown registered three saves on the afternoon in 90 minutes played.

The Falcons will play in their first road match on Saturday, Sept. 15 as they travel to Emerson for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
