Andrews’ Hat Trick Rockets Women’s Soccer Past Anna Maria, 6-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Haley Andrews (Prospect, Conn.) tallied her second career hat trick to guide Albertus Magnus women's soccer to a convincing 6-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Anna Maria College on Wednesday night.

FINAL: Albertus Magnus 6 | Anna Maria 1
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (6-4-1, 3-3-1 GNAC) | Anna Maria (3-7-1, 0-5-1 GNAC)

Katherine Raposo (Warwick, R.I.) put Albertus up 1-0 in the eighth minute with stellar footwork inside the box. Raposo gathered a pass from Andrews and juked both the opposing keeper and a defender to score on the wide-open net.

Andrews continued her outstanding day with her first goal at the 8:51 mark of the first half. On a fast break, the sophomore used her speed to beat the backline to the box, where she lofted a shot over the goalie.

The second of Andrews' tallies was the prettiest, as she rocketed a ball from about 35 yards out over the keeper into the goal. After an AMCATS' score in the 36th minute, the Falcons took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

Following a slow start to the second half, Andrews secured the hat trick with a goal in the 60th minute. Sophia Austin (East Hartford, Conn.) sent a cross from the right corner that found Andrews in the left of the box for Albertus' fourth goal.

The Falcons' advantage continued to grow late into the contest, as Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) found Jenessa Perez (Oxford, Conn.) on a corner kick in the 85th minute to put the score at 5-1. Riccio sealed the 6-1 final score with a goal of her own four minutes later on a long shot just outside the box that found daylight in the lower right corner.
