Suffolk Defeats Falcons 8-1 in Women's Tennis

Despite an impressive 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles' action, the Albertus Magnus women's tennis team fell to Suffolk University 8-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Monday afternoon.

Freshman Zaida Velazco and teammate Malika Grant battled Suffolk's Rebecca Eshoo and Lizzy Arkins to an 8-4 victory, the Falcons' lone match win of the day.

Velazco dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision in No. 1 singles to Adrianna Garrett before Stephanie Thy fell to Eshoo 6-2, 6-1.

Grant battled in No. 3 sinlges but fell to Allison Weisenbach 6-1, 6-3.  Sandybell Anorga lost in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1, while Teresa Piniero and Sogona Sacko fell in No. 5 and No. 6 singles by pairs of 6-0 scores.

Albertus will host Mount Ida College on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m.  The Mustangs are 0-8 on the year.
