Jamaica, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team blanked York, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the York College Courts.

The Falcons (3-3) were dominant in both singles and doubles action to defeat the Cardinals (0-5) in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

In doubles play, Albertus Magnus cruised to three victories. The Falcon tandem of senior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) and sophomore Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) netted an 8-0 win at No. 1, while the AMC duo of sophomore Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) raced past their opponents, 8-1, at No. 2. At No. 3, freshmen Cayce Andrews (Hamden, Conn.) and Dayanlee Quezada-Coello (New Haven, Conn.) earned their first collegiate victory as a team.

In singles action, Albertus Magnus won all six matches and dropped just four total games combined. Freshmen Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) and Paige Williams (Orange County, Va.) both netted 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, October 5, with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown on the road against Mount Ida that is slated to get underway at 3:30 pm. Last autumn, the Falcons topped the Mustangs, 7-2, in the Elm City.
