The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team fell to the College of New Rochelle 3-0 on Wednesday night in New Rochelle, N.Y. The set scores were 25-17, 25-10 and 25-11. With the win, New Rochelle improved to an impressive 22-7, while the Falcons fell to 4-17 on the year.
Hitting struggles plagued the Falcons on the night as they recorded 14 kills and 22 hitting errors in 87 attempts. New Rochelle put together a solid effort as the host team tallied 36 kills and just seven errors on the night.
The opening set began as a close contest as the Falcons tied the score at six on an Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) service ace. New Rochelle answered to take a 20-11 lead before taking the set 25-17. Gomez finished the match with two aces to go along with two kills and two digs.
The second set was similar before New Rochelle took control of the contest with a 14-4 run to take an 18-8 lead. Melanie Lopez Soto served out several points to help the Blue Angels to victory. The final score of the set was 25-10.
Albertus jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the final set before pushing out to a 6-4 advantage. New Rochelle used an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 lead before extending its lead and clinching a 25-11 victory.
Albertus will host Norwich and Rivier on Saturday in its final regular-season home matches beginning at noon. The Falcons will also honor their lone senior - Leanna Velez.
