Falcons Fall on the Road to Norwich

Northfield, Vt. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Norwich University, 15-4, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle on Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field.

Norwich came out of the gate scoring three straight goals to take the early lead until the 25:49 mark as sophomore Sabrina Pohlig (West Palm Beach, Fla.) found the back of the net for her sixth of the season, pulling the Falcons to within two, 3-1.

Shortly after, Norwich pushed its lead to five, 6-1, following three straight from Meaghan McGrath before sophomore Courtney Cacace (Brookfield, Conn.) scored the Falcons' second of the game, 6-2, on a free position shot with 15:43 remaining in the first.

Norwich would close out the opening half with a 6-0 scoring run to take a commanding 12-2 lead at the half.

Midway through the second, Norwich would score its 13th goal of the game on a goal from Jordan Lutz, but back-to-back goals from Cacace stopped the running clock and brought the visitors' to within nine, 13-4, with 7:08 left to play.

Norwich closed out regulation with two goals to secure the home conference win, 15-4.

  • Norwich won the battle in ground balls, 23-16, and draw controls, 15-6, as well as outshot the Falcons 35-16.
  • Albertus Magnus was a perfect 2-for-2 in free position shots while Norwich was held to 3-of-8.
  • Sophomore Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) posted a team-high three draw controls while scooping up a ground ball.
  • Junior Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) collected a game-high five ground balls as well as caused a turnover.
  • Meaghan McGrath and Emily Schromm paced the Cadets' offense with four goals each while Schromm finished with a game-high two assists and seven draw controls.
  • Albertus Magnus finished the game 10-of-16 in clears while Norwich was nearly perfect 10-of-11.
  • Out of the Falcons' 22 turnovers, Norwich caused 10 of them.

The women's lacrosse team closes out the 2018 season with a pair of home contests against Saint Joseph's (Conn.) and Mt. St. Vincents. Prior to Thursday's non-conference against the Dolphins, the women's lacrosse team will be honoring its three member senior class - Michele Guerrara (Watertown, Conn.), Alex Chan (Monroe, N.Y.) and Robyn Grimshaw (Waterbury, Conn.).
