The Albertus Magnus women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-21, 30-28, 25-21) to Newbury College on Friday afternoon in the Falcons' first match of the Dave Hildebrandt Memorial Tournament.
Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) led the Falcons with 18 digs in the match, while senior Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) added eight kills, four service aces, and 14 digs. Freshman Caitlin Prete (Milford, Conn.) added three kills and 10 digs.
Lily Dy (Torrington, Conn.) dished out 20 assists in the loss as the Falcons fell to 1-3 on the year.
After dropping a close first set 25-21, the Falcons held a 23-21 lead in the second set before Newbury tied the score at 23. After back-and-forth play and the score tied at 28, Newbury's Madison Clemmons registered a kill before an Albertus hitting error secured the set victory for the Nighthawks.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the third set but Newbury battled back to tie the score at seven apiece. The Falcons then bounced back and took a 14-10 lead thanks to a Manning service ace and a Taylor DePalma (East Haven, Conn.) kill.
Albertus pushed out to an 18-12 advantage before an 8-2 run for Newbury tied the score at 20.
Miscues hurt the Falcons on the final stretch as the Nighthawks finished the match with a 5-1 run.
